  • 45,000 steps
  • one amazing day
  • for the bucket list

nice to knows

lessons learned from last year's panorama ridge hike in sept 2017.

  • proper hiking shoes and socks are a must
    • bring comfy nike frees for the hike down
  • bandaids for them heels
  • adequate fuel and snacks
  • prepare with layers
  • go early, to avoid having to park at least 1km down the road. you won't regret it, the last thing you want to do is walk farther to your car.

lessons from this year's experience

  • natural bug spray does not work. use the poison or you will be eaten alive.
    • most of the bugs came out to hunt between 9am - 11am.
    • there are way less bugs in september.
  • pack cold water
  • i can sometimes make smart decisions
    • did not even attempt or consider bouldering the side of the black tusk to get to the peak.
    • hardhat or helmet is recommended if you want to boulder
you were born to do more than pay bills and die.

versus

black tusk vs panorama ridge

panorama ridge

  • view of garibaldi lake is unbeatable
  • 360 views with black tusk and the valley
  • longer hike
  • less loose rocks
  • steeper section at the top on the cliff side
  • more flat grassy space at the top to chill and relax

black tusk

  • partial view of garibaldi lake
  • for the adrenaline junkies who want to boulder
  • shorter hike by 4km
  • lots of loose rocks; slipping steps for the last 1.5km or so
  • sitting on rocks at the top

panorama ridge is worth the extra 4km.
