GIBSON

our adventure to the sunshine coast

nice to knows

  • parking is hard to come by at horseshoebay on a saturday morning, plan ahead. parking rates are $16 for 24 hour and $24 for 36 hours.
  • round trip ferry cost with car with two people is approximately $73.30 (car $45.90, fare $13.70 each)
  • gibson is not flat; riding is possible but prepare for some rolling and steep hills
  • the money potentially saved by not taking the car across, would have probably been spent on a taxi.
  • lower gibson is right by the water and has majority of the restaurants and shops with a small town feel
  • upper gibson is more commercial and has a more city feel.
  • beautiful quiet beaches to watch the sunset

recommendations

i would either do a day trip and hike Mt Elphinstone or a longer trip and hop along the sunshine coast to explore all the small towns.

food + mid day naps + coffee + handstands + acro yoga + food + sunset + hike + food + business

we started the day circling horseshoe bay looking for parking. the plan was to park the car and take the ferry with our bikes. after driving around for about 20 minutes and looking for the overflow parking lot that is no longer there, we gave up and decided to take the car over instead.

i have always believed that things just happen the way they are meant to happen. there was a reason, we couldn't find parking. we didn't take our bikes out of the car once over the weekend and we weren't even disappointed; Gibson is not flat and we were lazy.

luck was on our side and we still caught the 940am ferry, the same sailing we had planned for.

forty minutes later, we arrived in Gibson, time to look for food.

  • first stop, we missed the breakfast menu by 8 minutes.
  • second stop, we were mildly disappointed that the "public market" was only a few vendors and nothing compared to what we were use to in Vancouver.
  • third and final stop, pulled pork, brisket and fries on the dock at Smoke on the Water BBQ.

three hours until check-in, time to nap. i tried really hard, but i got restless, so we venture to Beach Comber Coffee to try their new coffee flight, and chatted on a bench looking out into the water until we can check into our airbnb.

three pm; settled and showered, we are off to find a park so we can hang out upside down, and do some movement,

we had dinner at The 101 brewhouse + distillery; beer and tacos. ended the night chasing the sunset at Bonniebrook Beach.

morning hike

quick and easy

Soames Hill

  • 2 km
  • 1 hour
  • 65m elevation gain
  • really well marked trails
  • section with a lot of stairs
  • trail is a loop

refuelled with Brunch at Drift, french press coffee, local fresh food and amazing service. we loved the servers who were working their butts off during the morning rush. last stop at Wheatberries Bakery before heading to the ferry terminal.

couldn't have asked for a better way to end our trip by brainstorming and drawing logo ideas and discussiong business while waiting for the ferry.

quick mini-escape with a little bit of everything.

disconnecting from life, and connecting with each other.
